چکیده

Abstract The evolution and the stability of mass transfer CO+He white dwarf (WD) binaries are not well understood. Observationally they may emerge as AM CVn important gravitational wave (GW) emitters. In this work, we have modeled double WD with accretor masses 0.50–1.30 M ⊙ donor 0.17–0.45 using detailed stellar code mesa . We find that same but different is very similar larger He maximum rates smaller minimum orbital periods. also demonstrate GW signal from can be detected by spaceborne observatories, such LISA TianQin. There a linear relation between frequency during phase. our calculation, all dynamically stable transfer, which previous studies. threshold Eddington-limited for given lower than Assuming binary enter common envelope if rate exceeds burning He, provide new criterion WDs surviving below Eddington limit. Finally, some systems oxygen–neon (ONe) in calculation evolve into detached consisting neutron stars extremely low-mass WDs, further ultracompact X-ray binaries.

Evolution of Close White Dwarf Binaries

We describe the evolution of double degenerate binary systems, consisting of components obeying the zero temperature mass radius relationship for white dwarf stars, from the onset of mass transfer to one of several possible outcomes including merger, tidal disruption of the donor, or survival as a semidetached AM CVn system. We use a combination of analytic solutions and numerical integrations ...

Hot White Dwarf Donors in Ultracompact X-ray Binaries

The discovery of two accreting millisecond X-ray pulsars in binaries with ≈ 43 minute orbital periods allows for a new probe of the donor’s structure. For XTE J1751-305, only a hot white dwarf (WD) can fill the Roche Lobe. A cold He WD is a possible solution for XTE J0929-314, though I will show that evolutionary arguments make a hot WD more likely. In addition to being larger than the T = 0 mo...

The First Direct Spectroscopic Detection of a White Dwarf Primary in an AM CVn System

We report the results of a synthetic spectral analysis of Hubble STIS spectra of the AM CVn-type cataclysmic variable CP Eri obtained when the system was in quiescence. The FUV spectrum is best fitted by a helium-dominated, hybrid composition (DBAZ) white dwarf with Teff ∼ 17, 000K ± 1000K, log g∼ 8, He abundance ∼ 1000× solar, H abundance ∼ 0.1× solar, metallicity Z ∼ 0.05× solar, V sin i ∼ 40...

Evolution of Neutron-star, Carbon-oxygen White-dwarf Binaries

We consider the evolution of neutron-star (ns), carbon-oxygen white-dwarf (co) binaries, using both the Bethe & Brown (1998) schematic analytic evolutions and the Portegies Zwart & Yungelson (1998) numerical population syntheses. The scenario in which the circular neutron-star, carbon-oxygen white-dwarf binaries (ns, co)c have gone through common envelope evolution is considered. In conventiona...

The chemical composition of donors in AM CVn stars and ultra-compact X-ray binaries: observational tests of their formation

We study the formation of ultra-compact binaries (AM CVn stars and ultra-compact X-ray binaries) with emphasis on the surface chemical abundances of the donors in these systems. Hydrogen is not convincingly detected in the spectra of any these systems. Three different proposed formation scenarios involve different donor stars, white dwarfs, helium stars or evolved main-sequence stars. Using det...
